When ever we have to upload any pictures from our mobile to Orkut, we usually copy the pictures to desktop, open orkut and after that we upload the images. This increase the time and more work for us to update our Orkut photo album. Orkut has released a new Orkut-picasa uploader plugin to upload pictured directly from picasa.

Using this plugin is very simple, all you need to have is Picasa installed on your system. If you don’t have picasa installed in your system, you can download it from here. Once picasa is installed, download this plugin. After you done installing plugin it will ask you for the confirmation to launch the picasa application. Click on allow.

After that simple select the images you want to upload it to orkut and click on share on orkut and you will can instantly upload your images from desktop. Check this screenshots, which will explain the procedure in details :

After clicking on upload, it will ask you for your orkut logins and you can select the album or create a new album to upload your images.

Orkut users must be waiting for this one. You might be like me who was wondering that Orkut is owned by Google and Chrome is a Google product so why havent we seen Chrome extensions for Orkut. The wait is over and the Orkut extension will really go a long way to make it easy. If you frequent Orkut and use Chrome, I think this extension is a must have for you.

Orkut Extension for Chrome

• Just install the Orkut extension for Chrome and sign into your Orkut account with the extension.
• It keeps a look out for new scraps and status updates.
• It also has a handy drop down menu for all that you might need to look up on Orkut features like photos, scrapbook, videos, Orkut apps and much more. Click on one of them and you are taken to the page directly.
• The extension allowed me to look up my friends directly from the browser itself and visit their page directly. I was a little disappointed as I could not search for my Communities directly.
• I could also share a page I liked through orkut with a simple click.

If you are using Orkut a lot and come across a nice website or article online which you want to share with your Orkut friends you might have had to enter the link into everyones scrapbook or use various tools to send scraps to everyone.

Here is a neat way to do this different and with a lot of ease. It is a bookmarklet that you can have on your browser. When you come across a interesting link you want to share, just click on the bookmarklet and share what you like with your friends. It will show up to your Orkut friends in their latest updates.

How to get the Bookmarklet?

• Click here to install the Bookmarklet for orkut.
• This will have a bookmark on your browser which will read as Share on Orkut (see image above).
• When you are on a page you want to share, click on the bookmark and it will share the page with all your Orkut buddies through their updates.

Good to see this new Bookmarklet which will surely make it easy to share info on Orkut. It would probably be easier than sharing links on Facebook.

You may have heard about the tight competitions between orkut and facebook. Now as a part of their competition, Orkut has updated it’s look and functions. Most of them are similar to that of Facebook. I have found several similarities and now, Let us just run through the 5 major similarities between new orkut and facebook ;

1) Status Updating System :

This is one of the best feature provided by the Facebook. Orkut has started it before, but it was not that much effective. But now, the status works similar in facebook and on Orkut. Here is the system in Orkut :

2.Chat Application :

The chat application that is shown in the bottom right corner of Facebook / orkut also shows similarities.

Just check their position and style ;

3.Commenting System:

This was one of the greatest features that Facebook had. As a part of the beta version of new orkut, orkut has tested this system too in it. Here is the shot of commenting system in Orkut;

4.Friends suggestion tool :

This is another tool that became popular in facebook. Even-though there is a difference in appearance, this too does the same job.

5.Friends box :

An avatar of your friends (in a random order) on your sidebar – Under a tab named ‘friends’ or ‘my friends’. That is the common option that prevailed in both these sites from the starting itself. We can count it as one of the best similarities between these two sites.

Facebook have been well known for sharing web pages. Due to this reason, it has been a favorite place of bloggers. I felt pity for Orkut, which don’t have such options. But now orkut, under Google has entered this field with more and more facilities.

Today when i was browsing through my friends profiles, i stunned to see the pic of one of my friend and his blog on the ad-section of my page. I thought that he had started to use adwords. But it was then i realized  the cool ‘promote it’ button in it. It was an ‘Promotion’ created by him.

This service named promotion is just another form of self advertising. You can create your own ad, that will be shown in the left sidebar of your friends orkut page.

What is Orkut Promote ?

• You can share information like text, pictures or youtube Videos with your friends
• If they like it, they can re share it by clicking the ‘promote it’ button [just like digg and reddit]
• You can track the promotions you got, how many users have seen it, and how many have deleted it from the my promotions tab.

It’s Great, How can i create one for me ?

It’s pretty simple. You may see a link for it in your sidebar. If you don’t, then just add a ‘#Promote’ with the URL of your orkut page. It must look like http://www.orkut.co.in/Main#Promote

• Add a title and a comment for your Ad
• Select which type of promotion you need – Text, Image or Video
• Type in the text you want to show, or select the Image or youtube Video from your profile
• Click on ‘create promotion’
• It’s done.Now track it’s status under ‘my promotions’ Tab.

This is an update to our post announcing new Orkut invitation giveaway!

First, I must say response for new Orkut invitation is much more than we have expected earlier. I had to practically turn off email notifications for my Orkut account since every few minute I was receiving email notification for either a new friend request or a new scrap in my scrapbook.

This is one reason we had to close comments on our post announcing Orkut invitation giveaway! I received more than 70 friend requests in last 2-3 days. By the way if you really like to increase number of friends on Orkut, do send us your profile link. We will share it with our readers who are eagerly waiting for new Orkut invites.

Anyway as contest closed today only 9 Orkut users meant to be selected. Why 9? That’s the number of Orkut invitations I had!

So going through around 60 comments and ignoring all scraps (we already mentioned about how we were going to select winners so no offense please), following 9 people are first whom I could invite.
