Orkut’s “Shiv-Sena Hate Community” Busted!
What happened to the freedom of speech and expression, I wonder? Imagine running a community on Orkut, and being held accountable for every message posted. This is exactly what happened to Ajith D, a 19 year old computer student and an Orkut account holder, who apparently created a “Shiv Sena hate community” on Orkut. Mumbai cyber crime tracked him down and initiated criminal proceedings against him.
Chat on Orkut without a Gmail Account
Most of you must have noticed that Google Talk was not available for chatting on Orkut for people who did not have a Gmail account. Thankfully, this will not be a hindrance for Orkut users any more.
Now, Google’s chat feature is being enabled for all Orkut users, irrespective of whether they have a Gmail ID or not.

Sometime back Orkut added complete support for Google-Talk popup chat windows. This is different than earlier Google Talk integration where your Orkut friends gets added to Google Talk chat list automatically.
This recent integration opens all active Google Talk chat windows when you move from one Orkut window to another Orkut window seamlessly.
Orkut Introduced Inline Photo Commenting in Activity Stream
Activity stream or updates from friends on your Orkut homepage shows among other things photo related updates from your friend.
Earlier, if somebody post a comment on your friend’s you need to go to that photo to reply to it.
Google Gears for Offline Orkut Communities?
Recently, one of our reader Jo has emailed us asking, Is there anyway to save orkut topics or download topics/forums to view offline later when there is no internet connection? As a temporary and ugly workaround, I suggested him, You can subscribe to RSS feed of individual topics and/or communities using our service Orkutfeeds. Then using Google Reader’s offline mode or any desktop reader, you can view updates later when there is no internet connection.
